Cattle Breeding On Eagle’s Nest

Beneficiary : Hayrettin Aydın

My name is Hayrettin Aydın, I have established an animal breeding facility with 48 heads in Kovanlık district of Giresun. I have been dealing with animal husbandry which is my father’s profession since my childhood. The altitude of this region is 900 meters with steep slopes where the transportation is difficult. 10-15 years ago locals were able to make their living with a few cattle but now this practice is facing extinction in our region. Building a fattening barn in this region is both risky and difficult. During my internet searches I have learned about IPARD support and planned to build my barn via IPARD grants. My friends and relatives insisted me on not making an investment on this area however I did not gave up and achieved to establish my enterprise via IPARD support. The construction area was insufficient but by carving the mountain I obtained a sufficient area for construction. Although planting forage crop, and supplying fattening materials are problems we faced in this region, I did not experience difficulty in marketing as there is no other facility around. I transfer the animals to a slaughterhouse in Bulancak district. Though I don’t earn piles of money from this business now, I still continue to manage my enterprise. I hope to move to a more productive and profitable position in the future.
